Got LME instead of DME

I ordered and received a Patriot's Pride recipe from Mr. Beer. I chose this recipe because I have not yet done a hop addition or worked with DME. What came in the package was a softpack of LME instead of a package of DME. I realize that they both will accomplish the same thing, but as I have not used DME before, part of the reason I chose this recipe was to try my hand at using DME. Also is it ok to boil the the LME? I know you can't boil HME. Will I effect the color or taste of the LME if I use it for the hop boil?

I am waiting on a reply from Mr. Beer about exchanging the LME for DME, but wanted to know how to proceed if there is an issue there.


1 Can Patriot Lager HME
1 BrewMax DME Softpack - Smooth
1 Packet Dry Brewing Yeast (under lid of HME)
1 1/2 oz. Packet Liberty Pellet Hops
1 Muslin Hop Sack
1 Packet No-Rinse Cleanser

Yes, you can boil the LME, just add it with the flame off and mix it in well so it doesn't stick to the bottom of your pot and caramelize.

Well , i promptly received an email from Mr. Beer stating that they will send a pack a DME pronto. So looks like I have a bonus LME pack now. Mr. Beer's customer service has been great in my experience.

get some more hops and use both lme and the dme.

I guess I use mainly LME due to my LHBS specializes in LME, I get 2# LME for the price of 1# DME (When buy bulk LME in own container)

Granted I do AG also but since LME is so cheap easy to make a low cost recipe
