For those of you who regularly exchange brews:

I know most of you guys are kegging; am I right that you are bottling from the keg and then shipping?

If I want to send some beer out that was direct bottled would I need to wait until after carb/conditioning is done or can I ship before they are ready to drink as long as the bottling day is on the label?

There shouldn't be a problem of bombs from overcarbing but I don't know if there would a problem from them getting sloshed about in route.

I have shipped direct bottled beer both after it was fully carbed and just after bottling. And based on the recipients comments, there doesn't seem to be a difference. But like you already noted, make sure who ever is the lucky one to get your beer knows when it was bottled and when how long you suggest to let it carb/condition before it's opened.

Many times I bottle a few as I keg and those few are bottle conditioned. Other times, after the keg has been carbed correctly (hopefully) I use a beer gun and bottle from the keg. While not hit and miss, most of my beers that way come out fine but some have been slightly undercarbed.

I've shipped bottle conditioned beers as soon as 4-5 days after bottling though it's not my first choice. I prefer to wait a week or more then ship them.

Ship 'em! I also bottle from keg and bottle condition as well so it's a mix and match. Never had an issue either way.
