GW Kent

Post by monsteroyd »

anyone ever buy anything from this place(http://www.gwkent.com/brewery.html)? Looks like you can buy a 50 lb bags of DME and other malt. Also they have LME $44/33lbs. They do have a $50 minimum order, but it looks like you could buy 50 lbs Gold DME for $130 shipped, which is about $2.60 a lb. I was thinking of getting a 50 lb bag of DME, since it would keep, and was just wondering if anyone had ever dealt with them.

Thanks

Never heard of them; but I hope someone else can chime in. I would love to stock up on the basics so that I can start 2014 with a bang!

Well the DME and the LME are about the only things I could handle from them. They sell everything, but most of it is pallet sized. Or like 500g of yeast. So you could certainly go with a very loud bang with them. :)

Never heard of them, and they are 9 miles from me...

Google them and you'll find poor Yelp reviews http://www.yelp.com/biz/g-w-kent-inc-ypsilanti, and a non-existent BBB record. http://www.bbb.org/eastern-michigan/bus ... i-90008729

Be very careful how you store the DME. It doesn't take much moisture to turn it into malt candy....
If it does rock up on you, it is still useable, just a bit more difficult to measure.
But it is cool to be working on anything as the rock melts slowly in your mouth.... I have a dark that it rocked up on me and I use when I need to, eat when I see it...

OK this has shipped, we'll see how long it takes to get here.

And mtsoxfan, I hear you. I just ordered some 5 gal food grade buckets and some gamma seal lids. Hopefully that will keep it dry for me.

Got it today nicely packaged in the Breiss paper/plastic bag in a cardboard box. Ordered Jan 2 Delivered Jan 8 Ave cost per pound $2.60 with shipping included. This is 50lb Breiss Golden Light DME. So I think GW Kent is a good place to get DME.

just a quick question on a slightly old thread..... did they deliver to your house or a business? I'm in for quite a bit if they'll deliver to the house.

Right to my home. I am definitely getting more. It is nice light gold DME at only about $2.60 with shipping. Get 2 nice food grade 5 gal buckets and you are good to go. Comes in a box which has the paper/plastic 50 lb bag in it.

That is one COOL website. It had all kinds of toys I can upgrade my conical with. And extremely good deals on grain.

Hmmm, Rick why did you have to point out this place is soooooo dang close? Picking up at the door brings it to around two beans a pound, amd I have both a vacuum sealer and canner attachment. LME is quite the bargain but no way would I use 33# before it started to go bad. Yet, anyways....
