Aggressive pour into a nonic glass left an off white head that stuck around a while and then faded leaving traces of lacing as I drank it. I would not call this "black" like Guinness Black Lager or NB 1554....it's clear and you can see through it when held up to a strong bar light.

The nose is one of those that's hard to get a handle on for me. I get caramelly/malty/roasty/chocolatey notes but nothing stands out as the dominant one.

Flavor is like a rush of strong, warm, iced tea....similar to the feeling I had the other day with one of the beers in that sampler pack. The bittering isn't that strong and there is almost zero flavor from hops. I get the roasted malts and another almost metallic finish. After fading, the metallic finish gives way to a biscuity, almost wheaty malt aftertaste that sits on the tongue.

Mouthfeel is like Newkie's Brown........and I mean exactly the same. With the darker, more roasted malts, I figured there might be some more body to it that the Brown Ale but no, it's a typical Newcastle product. Overall, I'm not disappointed totally but I could have gotten almost the same experience with a sixer of Newcastle Brown Ale.
