Meeting Olympians

Not Greek gods, though some might see the similarity. Yesterday I was at a training session for the US Women's Foil (fencing) team. It was fascinating to watch, and to talk with the coach. There was a young woman in gear sitting behind me, I asked her questions about the scoring. She was very pleasant and helpful. Another athlete sitting nearby introduced herself too. They helped me understand what I was seeing. Back home, I did an internet search on the team. The women I was talking to may have looked like girls to me, but they were ranked #1 and #3 in the US, #8 and #23 in the world. Both were friendly, charming, down to earth, but also confident. Both attend Columbia University. Both competed in the 2012 Olympics. Yesterday I was impressed, today I'm amazed.

That is way cool JS. I can see how you freaked when you got home and saw they were ranked among the best in the world.

I have met a handful of wrestling Olympic gold and silver medalists. When you wrestle for 10 years that happens lol. They are amazing, down to earth, and brilliant athletes
