Finally! New Pot.

Post by John Sand »

Last year I asked for input on an equipment purchase. I finally decided to buy a bigger pot. I have been using a 20qt canner cooker. Well, it's been an odyssey. I ordered a stainless 30qt from Amazon, with mixed reviews. Most complaints were weak handles. Sure enough, when I stress tested the first pot, one handle broke off. The bottom wasn't flat either. Amazon took it back and sent another in a flash. The handles were good, but it warped the first time I used it. Sent that one back too, decided not to try that model again. I hoped for another gift certificate from Santa. Then I would move up in the world and buy a tri-ply 8 gallon pot. Not so lucky. So I ordered the Bayou Classic 30qt aluminum turkey fryer kit. Arrived yesterday, stove tested (water only) tonight. Hurrah! Heats fast, and the thermometer is even accurate. Next batch is full boil!

Bayou Classic makes some good pots. May you first full boil go smoother than your search for a pot. :clink:

Thank you all! Seasoned it last night and left it on the stove to cool. Still over 100 degrees this morning. Good for mashing.

Yeah sounds like it retains heat rather well. Could even do a sour mash in it if you wanted.
