I've never seen it. I guess you have to break the bottle to get it out to use it again???? And if that's the case, I can't reuse the bottle.

Yeah, you'd think they would come up some way/tool for extracting the thing so you can re-use bottles.

Did think of that. Knowing the that is most like not an issue we are an inventive bunch!!!

Well I always used to take the rocket widgets out of the Guinness Draught bottles all the time and this looks like it would be easier to get out than that. The easiest way is probably just long needle nose pliers. But it would certainly make reusing the bottles more difficult.

Why not just toss a hop pellet or chili or coffee bean right into the bottle instead at that point?

I think the idea is to keep the material added for flavor out of the beer in your glass.

Me I would never get it. I rarely bottle. If I need a flavor addition I add it to secondary.

I haven't, but recall a thread on HBT where somebody did a test with BudLite and hop pellets. Basically used it as a neutral testing ground by opening bottles, dropping in a pellet of various types (into different bottles) and then recapping for a week or two.

Hmm. Has anyone popped a coffee bean into a bottle of, say a stout, before conditioning? That might be an interesting experiment to try on maybe half of the bottles in a batch.

Your right...it would be an interesting experiment. And even if it doesn't do much, it would be a hell of a marketing gimmick.

EDIT....you do realize what you just did here....the recipe maker in my head is now in full production mode.

It's a good idea, but a Dogfish randell is much better & easier to use. As for the bean in a bottle, also a good idea but never will happen because of law suits from people choking on the bean. There was a guy I knew that was going to sell Shirley Temple's in a can with a cherry in it. Never made it because the cherry could choke the user. Would be cool though.
