Niagara Falls frozen, but made it to Middle Ages Brewery
New avatar shows Niagara Falls frozen. Then went to Middle Ages Brewery and Empire Brewery in Syracuse. Middle Ages was interesting, too bad no tours on Saturdays. Empire's beer's weren't my cup of tea, not malty enough.

it's got a pop top
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

From Niagara to Syracuse? That's a couple hours of driving, right there. Had I known, I would have advised you to stop in Rochester on the way and visit Rohrbach's. Good micros at Rohrbach's. They make a vanilla porter that I can only describe as liquid cake. If, as you say, you're a malty kind of guy, you'd go for this porter like a tabby after catnip.
Rohrbach's vanilla porter and cheesecake.
I'm just sayin'.

Yeah, I looked at doing Rochester instead, we're driving Michigan to Massachusetts, and needed a place to spend the night (in my youth I drove 12 hours at a stretch, not now). Syracuse had more options. Guess I should have asked first . Menu had a lot of German stuff on it, guess I should have looked further.
Today we're headed another 5 hours to a friend's house from when we used to live in Mass a long time ago. Bringing them a six of homebrew, but one of their kids is pretty advanced in homebrewing, so perhaps I won't be competitive...
We're spending a few days in Mass, hope to find some good brews, then headed back. If we do it in two days, have to find another place to stop.

Rick, on your way back, if it's at all possible, I would really recommend a stop at Rohrbach's, if only to sample some of their beer. And to get a growler of the vanilla porter, if it's available.
No shortage of good craft beers in the Mass. area, either. We went to Boston a couple of summers ago, and the beer selections in local restaurants and supermarkets is very good, IMO.

I thought you must be off on a trip somewhere; there has been a complete lack of sarcasm on this forum lately.
I can't believe you went somewhere where it's snowing.
Drive safe and hope you have a great time.

Ended up driving till midnight on the way back, stopped in Utica. Hit the road the next day and drove home.
Yes, it's quite a loss when I'm not on the forum Brewbirds, the lack of wit is apparent.

Cool looking beer can! How much does it hold? Do you just open the helmet and pour?

The next time I get to Mass. I'm going to the only Trappist Brewery in America,St. Joseph's Abby in Spencer Ma.

It's near Sturbridge Village off of the the Mass Pike.
They only have one beer at the moment. It's in its first year,
