There's a new brewery in southern Mississippi that we plan on visiting soon but my brother had a Mystery Romp last week and told me I had to try it. So today, after brewing and with all the Mardi Gras crowded streets, we went to our favorite pub to try it. 16 oz of pure deliciousness!
I'm not a coffee lover but this was almost desert. Low in ABV, it smells of coffee and chocolate with a hint of vanilla. As it warms it gets so much better.
Here's what their website says:
When the lights dim, the curtains pull back, and the Beledi starts, it is time for a Mystery Romp! This mocha colored ale, infused with chocolate and coffee, can best be described as a tasteful dance between a robust porter and a rich stout. (6.5% abv 49 ibu's)
Mystery Romp is a recipe that was a 5 yr evolution. Not that she was ever not a good beer. But, like any fancy lady she just always needed a little more. This porter has a gorgeous color at all stages. When brewed the swirl of earthy brown color dancing within the foam is picture worthy. When properly poured this beer vibrantly bubbles and sings. And as planned in the glass she is dark and mysterious. The smell of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate make her irresistible. This porter is Wanda's baby. Being a coffee and chocolate addict she probably went a little mad and over the top with this one. Surprisingly people besides her liked it, which makes us smile. The coffee beans are locally roasted in Long Beach Mississippi by Coast Roast. They do a wonderful job roasting these beans on a 108 yr old roaster. Gives it such a unique and special flavor.
The Drinking of It-- Mystery Romp is best drank at 45-54 Degrees F or 280-285 Kelvin out of a pint glass or mug.

Re: Crooked Brewery Mystery Romp
with such a write up, I would have figured it to be a Magic Hat product. Ahhh, the art of marketing. And the brewing behind the beer seems to back it up...
Re: Crooked Brewery Mystery Romp
I must confess I had the same thoughts when I saw what it was officially called.......and I like to think of it like this: the beer is SO good that instead of a cigarette afterwards, just a few sips of this delicacy is all that's needed for a perfect night!Kealia wrote:Nice description of the beer, too.
