A while back, I made that prophecy ale plus recipe, with the HME and the pale ale LME addition, and it came out fine.

Also attenuation/fermentability changes with the age of the LME/HME. The older it gets, the less it probably is, is the short answer.

But I don't think anyone has said this yet, but we usually tell new folks that chasing ABV isn't the best goal necessarily, where chasing flavor is. So stress less about ABV. ABV will just happen with the right styles along with the flavor.

My only personal stress with ABV is that I try to avoid too much. I like to drink beer too much.

And welcome to our happy place.
Happy brewing requires a little Zen. You will often make better beer when you "just brew" than when you try to chase numbers like ABV and IBU. Only add to a recipe if you think it will improve taste.

Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain.
Quaintest thoughts — queerest fancies,
Come to life and fade away:
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today.
