Main Street Brew Fest

Post by swenocha »

Had a great time at our eighth Feile Franklin/Main Street Brew Fest (the tenth festival overall). This is my favorite fest each year, but not really because of the beer. Though the beer quality went up a notch this year, with New Holland debuting beers and spirits in our market at the fest, and with a few of the breweries bringing special beers, the vast majority of the beers are beers you can get at any store around here. The great thing about the fest is the atmosphere. Main street Franklin is shut down over a four block area (as well as cross streets) for the night, and the pouring stations are either in front of, or inside of, various downtown businesses. There are Irish themed performers, Irish (and other food-truck) food, and a lot of fun wandering throughout the downtown area. And there are 70+ craft beers at 31 tasting sites... can't beat that... We take a group of 10-15 people out each year for the festival, always wrapping at Mellow Mushroom for pizza afterwards.

Schell's Brewery put on their annual "Bock Fest" at the beginning of the month. But it was like 15° and it is an outdoor beer fest (no buildings nearly big enough at the brewery to accommodate a crowd of that size) so I skipped it this year.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.
