Anyone brewing for Canada Day, eh?

Post by lindseywinstead »

No, I'm not Canadian. Nor do I know any Canadians. Never been to Canada. But I am always on the lookout for an excuse to brew (and drink!) a new beer style. I know many of us will be planning an American Independence Day brew soon. But what about our neighbors to the north? Canada Day is July 1st! I was thinking of brewing a nice Blonde Ale in honor of our Canuck Cousins. Anyone ever brewed with Canada in mind? I was wondering what hops to use. First to mind are Cascade, Mount Hood, and Hallertauer. I may have to make a run for the border!

My (very tentative) Candian Blonde Ale [Extract]:

6 pounds Light DME
1/2 pound 15L Crystal Malt
1 oz. (5% AA) ?? Hops
Wyeast 1056 (American Ale), White Labs WLP001 (California Ale) or Fermentis Safale US-05 yeast

Questions/Comments/Concerns, eh?

Hey good on ya for thinking of that. We need some hops out there named Ottawa or Vancouver those sound like good hop names to me.

So wouldn't you be brewing a Winter Jacket beer style for our friends to the north? :freeze:

We used to have a few brewers posting from there on the old forum. As I recall they had a hard time finding different kinds of ingredients.

Screwy is brewing a Cascadian ale, maybe he could move some letters around if he still has some left by July 1st. :p

Lovely idea! But that is a bit beyond my skill level at the moment! K.I.S.S. is my motto for the time being.
