Back to basics

So I had to work yesterday, and it was the second week in a row I had to work Saturday. So yeah, I worked 12 out of the last 14 days. I hate that.

I had planned on going to the LHBS to get the ingredients I needed to make a quick Lime Cerveza today. It's just an extract recipe with a little steeping grain, and some lime juice and zest tossed in. It's a good beer for summertime and for cookouts, so I like to have it on hand when it starts to get warmer.

But I was tired, and it was starting to rain, and I didn't really feel like going out again. Normally, I don't mind the 45-50 minute drive to the LHBS. And I love being there, especially if I can chat a little and maybe ask some questions of the guys who work there. But I just didn't feel like it yesterday, and figured I'd just take the week off from brewing.

The I remembered I'd ordered a recipe from Mr. Beer way back when, and never got around to making it. It's the Lincoln Liberty Logger, which is just the American Lager HME, the Pale LME, 1/2 oz of Liberty hops, and some lager yeast. Well, I figured I could mix it up and use ale yeast, since I don't have room in the lager fridge at the moment. No biggie; I've got spare packets of dry yeast for just such an occasion (and I recommend this practice to everyone).

So today I spent about an hour making my last Mr. Beer recipe. I'd forgotten how quickly they can be done. I know I'll have beer (not great beer, but pretty good beer) in a few weeks. And it'll add a case of low-grav, light ale to the pipeline.

I have a few HME cans left also from Mr. Beer.

I ordered all the new HME to try and found out fast I did not like P.O.R. in the Coopers HME.

I think I will brew up them as Lawn-mower beers to just drink up, last year was a VERY low brew year for me why I have so much left yet

Yeah, I was disappointed in the OG on this batch. But I figured, hey, it'll be a light beer for summer drinking. I'm planning on brewing a fiver of Bit O'Bitter because you need some low grav beers to quench your thirst and not eff you up when it's all hot outside, amirite?
