Bear Republic Apex Special IPA

Post by BlackDuck »

First off...thanks Ron for sending this one out my way. I would have written this up last night whilst drinking, but I was dealing with an unruly 4 year old. And when she finally went to sleep, I just wanted to sit on the couch and drink it and not write about it.

A very fine beer I must say. The aroma was nice and hoppy, not as strong as some others I have had, but it was really good, a nice blend of dank pine and citrus. It poured that nice orange color you would expect out of a well made IPA. The bitterness was nice too, and it was well balanced with the aroma and mouthfeel. The flavor was all hops. Just the way I like 'em. I'll say it again....a very fine beer!!

To further other comments on the sheer number of good IPA's out there, this one would most definitely belong in that category. And I'm happy that I was fortunate enough to get this...even if it almost did put my wife in jail.

I have seen some Bear Republic stuff out here, I'll have to keep an eye out for this now that I know how good it is.

Thanks again Ron...you are truly generous!!

I'll second that on the "Thanks Ron for sending it".

It had a very nice citrus/dank on the nose. Similar to Enjoy By, but on the lighter side. Good hop bitterness start to finish, with a nice bitter bite on back of the tongue at the end.
I could see having one in the fridge at all time if it were sold out here.

Cheers :clink:

Except for their Pale X, I pretty much like every Bear Republic beer I've tried. In fact, it was Racer 5 that rocketed me into the mega hoppy, IPA age that I've been living the last 8 years or so.
