What do you think of when you hear the word "Foamer"?

Vent, Rant, Chat or just talk about whatever is on your mind! Keep it civil though!

What do you think of when you hear the word "Foamer"?

Post by Gymrat »

As a guy who works for the railroad I can tell you what I and other railroaders think of. People who start foaming at the mouth when they see a locomotive. We as railroaders think these people have a screw loose. After all we can't wait for our shift to be over so we can get away from seeing locomotives. I am going somewhere with this.

The local home brew club is called "The Hall of Foamers" referring to the foam on beer.

So I was at a local club a couple of weeks ago with a group of guys from work. We always go there because they have all of their beers for $2 and half price appetizers. And they have 8 craft brews on tap and several more in bottles. Plus there are a LOT of fine looking people of the female persuasion that go in there.

Anyway a guy from our home brew club saw me there and walks up and asks me if I am coming to the next Foamers meeting. Holy smoke did I have a lot of explaining to do on that one.

Since I have this week off I invited the guys to come over here for BBQ, Beer, and Blues today. Trade off is the beer will be free but there will not be any scenery (people of the female persuasion). I just bottled Ralph's Lift Your Leg Wee Heavy saturday but I am going to serve a 6 pack of it today. I will probably split the bottles so everybody can have a taste.

One of my old high school buddies that I see only once every year or two owns his own railroad. It has track all the way from Duluth to Minneapolis. Might be even further now. Of course the entire railroad is in - I believe - HO scale and sits in a spare garage he had put on his property. If you think we're all obsessed with our beer you should see this guy with his "railroad" and it's layout.

I'll have to ask him if he's ever been called a "foamer" before. :laugh
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

This is just kind of weird, in an amusing way.

I'm trying to get my head around people who foam at the mouth at the mention of the word "locomotive". I know there are tremendous train aficionados out there, but really?

Anyway, as a homebrewer, I would tend to think of "Foamers" as a variant of "Gushers", and I've had enough of those, thank you very much.
