BBQ and beer!
My brother posted on his Facebook that he found Bell's at a local supermarket. So I went out and got a sixer of Two-Hearted Ale. Yay.
I also picked up a 3 pound pork tenderloin, because I have next Saturday off, and SWMBO and The Bhoy-o are going upstate, and I'll be all on my lonesome that weekend. So I'm gonna bottle a batch, bbq some pork, rack the fiver to a secondary, hit the LHBS for Sunday's brew day, and on Sunday, eat barbecued pork, drink homebrew, brew some FD's American Ale, and chill out.
It's good to have a plan.

Might be a pork loin. The important thing is, it's pork. And I'm gonna barbecue it, dammit!Trollby wrote:3# Pork tenderloin is a hugh one.

Cornish hens sound good, too. I've done beer-can chicken a number of times, and SWMBO is nuts about it. But I'm just a real fan of pork. I'm gonna slice it up into individual servings, vacuum seal it, and freeze it for numerous yummy dinners in the future.

Mmm... BBQ pork loin... Sounds tasty - what wood are you using? I did a 9# shoulder last weekend, smoked it for 16 hrs over applewood; damn was it good.

Sounds like a great weekend Dave, never done a pork loin but I'm thinking about trying a pork belly. Check out the latest video from the bbq pit boys....
Cheers!

I prefer apple with pork, too; always do my baby back ribs with apple wood. I'm pretty sure I have enough for this. If not, I know I have hickory, pear, or oak. But apple is the first choice.russki wrote:Mmm... BBQ pork loin... Sounds tasty - what wood are you using? I did a 9# shoulder last weekend, smoked it for 16 hrs over applewood; damn was it good.

You know Dave I'm thinking that if SWMBO and Boyo see this thread they may decide to stay home. (Drool Emoticon).

Re: BBQ and beer!
Actually, no, for a number of reasons.Brewbirds wrote:You know Dave I'm thinking that if SWMBO and Boyo see this thread they may decide to stay home. (Drool Emoticon).
First, they're very eager to see their family in Rochester. Two of SWMBO's three brothers still live there, and she misses them. One of her brothers has a son The Bhoy-o's age, so it's always good for them to get together.
Second, neither of them like barbecued pork. Weird, huh? But SWMBO is Jewish, and has a thing about pork, even though she doesn't keep Kosher. And The Bhoy-o is a picky eater, and especially doesn't like highly spiced things. He takes his burgers completely plain; no ketchup or anything. He might be a Super Taster. In any case, he doesn't like a lot of flavor/spices on his food.
And third, neither of them drink beer. SWMBO doesn't touch alcohol, and The Bhoy-o is under 21 and has a strong sense of correctness.
So this is all for me. And I'm gonna enjoy the whole experience to the max!

I always watch for sales and buy the whole pork loin (9#plus) and I cut into one 1/2 an then take the other 4.5# and cut into 1" thick chops. vacuum seal for future cooks.
Currently have two in the freezer waiting for better weather. Had to use my counter top rotisserie since raining here. Wanted to use my smoker

Re: BBQ and beer!
Toby, that's awesome! I figured just under three pounds was enough to keep me in some great barbecued pork for a while.
Mostly, though, it's a kind of therapy, much like brewing is for me. Season the meat, light the fire, get the smoke on, sit back, and savor the good things. To hell with work, my mortgage, my lousy plumbing, my arthritis....I got homebrew and I'm smokin' me some tasty pork. That's all that matters.
LOL!!
