Weyermann Pale malt

Post by Beer-lord »

My LHBS is out of Rahr and Great Western 50 lb sacks. I'm not a Briess fan and other than Briess (until maybe 60 more days) they only have Weyermann Pale Malt (2 row). It's got a bit higher lovibond and is a little more expensive (though it's in 55 lb bags) but I've never tried it and am curious about 1 post I read on another forum that said they felt the taste was a bit sweeter. My LHBS says it's great in stouts, porters and all beers but did admit that since I like IPA's, I would likely prefer Briess.
Truth is, I've used Briess for years but when I went to Rahr and Great Western, I just thought my beers tasted better and I hit my OG's more often (though I can't really blame lower OG's on Briess).

Comments, opinions or just yea or neigh!

Sorry, no help here. Briess is what my LHBS carries, so that's what I use. Though I do use the Pale Ale malt and not the Pale malt.

I've used their specialty malts a lot... Good stuff...

As they are an over 100 year old maltster, and from Germany... Purity is everything...

Wow, that link really goes thru alot....32 pages! :) I read 1 of them.
I too have used a number of their specialty malts and perhaps I should just buy 15 lbs and give it a try before getting the 55 lb bag but, it seems to be a very good choice as many have used it (on another forum) so I guess I could be over thinking this ONCE AGAIN!

I really like the Weyermann and Dingemans Pale malts and use them exclusively.

Speaking of malt, there's a new maltster in New York State called New York Craft Malt!

Picked up 5 lbs of their 'Light Munich' and thinking of incoprporating it in my next PM...

Prolly add some Caramunich, Vienna and Pils for an Octoberfest beer.

Way Cool to support local!

Never tried the Weyermann but my LHBS carries Briess, Rahr and some Avengard German Malts. He has an Avengard Pale Ale Malt I want to try. Briess is clean, consistant but sems plain. I like when he has the Rarh in stock. I might just tey the Avengard Pale Ale malt.
