In the market for a new thermometer

What does the
use for brewing? My last kitchen thermometer took a poop on me recently, and need a new one. Some pretty cool ones on Amazon, but don't know what I should get. My last one, the probe reads 172F at room temperature, and there is no way to calibrate it in ice water, so that feature would be a plus.

I really like the Thermo Pen RT 600c
http://www.thermoworks.com/products/low ... t600c.html
It's a 20.00 digital, very fast ( seconds ) thermometer.

Redbeerd uses that same one and I use the uber expensive therapen that's $96 but I got your $75. My kettle thermometer is not accurate no matter how I calibrate it. It's only accurate between 100-140 and off after that.
This brand may last as long as you brew.

Another vote for the
Thermapen. I use mine for brewing and cooking. Not cheap but man it's always dead on.
But I have been looking at
these with the type K PTFE/FEP probes.

I use a traditional analog clip-on thermometer. I had to calibrate it, but it works. I would love to grab me a thermapen though.

i'm lame and use a $3 candy and deep fry thermometer from walmart for steeping and chilling, and I have a stick on thermometer for my fermenter that's accurate to 2 degrees which is good enough for me! Call me cheap!

I plan to get one of these as well if I can't swing the Thermapen...
They seem fine for the task at hand!

This is the one I use.
Accurate with one degree. Reads 211 at boil
Just remember to silicone around the wire and probe connection. If you get liquid
in there it'll go wonky on you until it dries out!

I use this one:

$17-18, waterproof, can be calibrated, gives a reading in 6 seconds or less. Ticks all the boxes for me!
