The details would take too long to write out again, but I will tell you this: I apparently can't tell my in from my out (keg-wise), and a mallet isn't the answer.

If you've got switched up the posts and can't remove the ball lock, I've read that you can open up the top with a butter knife and pour almost boiling water over it to remove it. It expands the rubber ring to help it come off easier. You may still damage the post and/or the ball lock anyway.

Here's a few things I've done to help with that confusion on my part. Like I need help to be confused.

#1 I've marked my kegs and lids with my electric engraver. This help in two ways. The lids all align with the numbers on the kegs, gas post always to the left and the lid that works with that keg stays with that keg.

#2 is I have silicone O-rings for my gas ports and regular for liquid. So red is gas in and black is liquid out.

I have also seen where people have marked the gas side of the keg with red paint or nail polish.

You probably already know this but here's how to tell the difference quickly between the two.

I just had a brain fart and couldn't figure out why the liquid disconnect wouldn't go on that (gas) post. So I bashed it. Didn't work. Once I wrote it all out (before I deleted it) I realized what I was doing. DOH!

Don't feel bad Alb. I've spent the last two weeks changing the water pump on my boat, twice. I'm going to do kit again this weekend. Yesterday I had a custom tool made to align the base plate. Suffice it to say that for the money I've spent, and time, I could buy kegs and kegerator, and fill them several times.
If we didn't make mistakes, we wouldn't have forums!

Things like this teach others. Alb, you're not the first to have this problem. Most likely, not the last as well.

That's why Stanley makes pliers, to undo what I've done with their hammers.
