That is why I prefer the term Cascadian Dark Ale. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not.
RE: the joke - what makes it funnier to me is that the Belgians in reality could give a crap how their beer is classified. Its other folks who insist on putting them into categorical "buckets".

If some Dork is going to buy a Beer JUST because it has "IPA" on it somewhere, well, hand that silly sucker a Coors light and tell him it's Rocky Mountain IPA. (Idiotic Posing Asshole)

Not only do they want to label every beer an IPA, they are looking to package them better in general...
