I have decided to change my 80 Shilling ale recipe. I am going with 9 lbs of Marris Otter for my grain bill. I will get the sweetness and color by boiling a gallon of my first runnings into syrup. this is the way Scottish ales were originally made. I have always wanted to try this. Russki pushed me over the edge.

I want to try that one day myself. Keep us posted on any issues you may have since it's your first time. I love Odell 90-Schilling Ale and would like to take a crack at doing it soon.

I didn't wanna leave it boiling on the stove while I'm out here doing a boil in the garage. so I took a gallon of my first running and boil them in my kettle for 45 minutes now I'm putting the rest of my first running into the kettle. I have a lot of caramelize malt on the sides of my kettle. So clean up will be a pain.

This is the what I learned as what I call the Mashani pseudo-decoction. Works great for those of us with single infusion mash tuns.
