Green Flash 30th Street Pale Ale

Post by RedBEERd »

So you guys know I like hoppy beers.....but to me, it's more than about hop bitter..but hop FLORAL. I've said it before ad naseum......if it doesn't please my nose, it likely won't please my palate........and this one really didn't do it for me.

Some of you know of my affection for Green Flash Palate Wrecker (my wife has been instructed to place a bottle in my casket when I go). It IS a very fine beer. GF makes good beer but this one just isn't one I'll buy again.

The Hop Odyssey Series is their 'specialty line' that I believe will be a new beer roughly every 2 months. The first was a Black IPA that was good, but nothing special. Still a good quality beer. There are about 4 more coming down the line and I likely will try each one just so I can say I did.

This one is only 6% abv, 45 IBU but tastes MUCH bitterer than it should for a PALE ALE. And I like bitter but with other characteristics like floral, aroma etc. This one for me was just bitter and too bitter without any balance. I really know no other way to say it but over say it. It just didn't have balance.

I won't bother going into the other character tics here so I apologize for a half hearted review.

So, I await the next challenge and until I can find Enjoy By in my area, I shall be wandering aimlessly in the dreams of my fermentation bucket.
