Okay, I had a busy day. Started off going to an estate sale, home of a shop teacher. They had slabs of mahogany, white oak, cherry, and teak. I need teak for the caprails on the boat, but the lumberyard charges $28 a board foot. I came home with a piece 9'x1'x6/4 for $50. Okay, it has some splits, but I'm not making a table of it. Then I fired up my brand new Bayou Classic SP10- wow! Jet engine. And tonight I made my well regarded chicken pot pie. Usually it has some white wine in it, but the mrs is cutting back. (She just drinks half of my beer instead) The pot pie isn't quite the same without wine. I was drinking an IPA while cooking, and thought, "What the heck". So, I made it with some beer instead. The girls liked it.
I had a good day.

By my calculations you got 13.5 bdft of wood that would have cost you $378 at the lumber store for $50.00. I'd be doing handstands up and down the street.

On a side note...LOML and I went looking at ceiling fans yesterday at the local home-improvement stores. One that we were looking at had reversible blades with one side walnut the other side mismatched "tweak" (that's what the label said.). I asked one of the sales-people what kind of wood was "tweak". He said, and with a straight face, "You know. The wood that they use on boat decks." I said, "Oh. I thought they always used teak." He started laughing.

I always get a kick out of seeing the way the Chinese butcher the English language. But I'm sure we do worse with theirs.

Nothin wrong w/ beer in the pot pie! Honestly that sounds delicious. I'd love to try that.

I made my beef stew with Mr. Rufus Choco Brown tonight and it was even better than the last time I made it.

Lovin' beer stew, just wasn't sure how it would do replacing wine. I guess my wife could have told me!
