What Style to enter?

I did a German Pils style beer but used Ale Yeast, since it is not a true "Pils" would it still be entered under German Pils 2A or another category? I'm thinking I want to enter this and a Blonde Ale in The Ohio Brew Week Home Brew Competition in Athens. Will have to get entered and shipped soon though I think entry closes in about 2.5 weeks. I really am looking forward to getting feedback from professional taste buds at some point soon.

Does it fit 6B? (Blond Ale)

The Blonde Ale I'm good on it's the Pils that is the question, because I used Ale yeast instead of the Lager yeast would it be entered into maybe Kolsch 6C. Don't have particulars of the recipe at hand, but used all ingredients for a German Pils Style but used US-05 yeast.

It depends on if you want feedback from "style" perspective or just general feedback and if you can separate the dings for style from that equation when you get back the results.

Unless you used Kolsch yeast or Wyeast 1007 and fermented at the really cold end of their spectrum then really that beer isn't going to be judged well as a pilsner/lager. Even then it still will most likely be tagged as off by a judge, but it will be "closer".

S-05 does *not* make a passible Kolsch or Lager like beer (I do not mean it doesn't make good tasting beer - just not beer that rings true as a lager or a Kolsch). It would not be judged as well either - at least not by me - even if you fermented with it at the lowest temps it can handle. Kolsch yeast produces a "crispness" that S-05 never makes. 1007 fermented cold could pass my perception test, but even Notty fermented at 57 doesn't seem "kolsch" like to me.

It probably would be judged best as a simple blonde/pale ale honestly.

Thanks Mashani, I think i would enter it then in the 2A German Pils for feedback on the style even though I know that the clearness and crispness won't be there from lagering. Come fall and winter may try my hand at a lager or two, between the basement being so cool and the kegerator might have to at least try.

You could throw it in 2A and 6B...

Unless you have a blonde that you were intending for 6B...

YEP, Big Papa I was thinking of my MO Freedom SMaSH in the 6B.
I see you used 4 gallons of Lake Erie for a recent brew. Where along Lake Erie?

I live 5/8 mile from the lake. I usually use half Lake Erie (city water) and half spring water.
