Johnny Manz-Ale

It's time to get ready for some football. I brewed this up Saturday with a neighbor who is also a Browns fan. Everything went really well this time. I overshot my OG a bit (1.057 instead of 1.052). Maybe I'm getting a little better at conversion as the last couple batches have been slightly above my OG. This was my first attempt at this style, so I hope it comes out good. This should be ready to try on opening day of the regular season!!!

With a name like that, you'll probably have to let it age awhile before it's ready. And it'll likely pour with an attitude.

Just finished with the FG reading, dry hop and taster. Aroma was different and really kind of good. It was slighly malty, with a hint of nut and chocolate in it. The flavor was really good. The malt really seemed balanced with the hops at this stage. I think this has some real potential.

BUT (why does there always have to be a but?) I measured the hops out into a small bowl. Just before I was going to drop them in, I noticed a white powder on the edge. So, after closer inspection, I realized that I had dropped the hops into the bowl that I used to scoop out the PBW the last time I used it. I carefully dropped the hops into my hand leaving a few pellets and the hop dust in the bowl and dropped them in to the fermenter. Hopefully there isn't any PBW dust on my hops, but there probably is. I was using the last of the Cascade and Perle I had, so I couldn't throw them out. And I had to dry hop tonight as I won't be able to make it to the LHBS for at least a week. Oh well, we shall see!!!

Sorry Chris, I thought my off brew day was contained to Georgia.
Should help give it a clean finish though.

I actually thought that same thing. Or that the fermenter will be easier to clean after I bottle.

Well, not a bad day for us, just missed our numbers by a few but Chris' deal sounds like there's going to be some sweating before we know for sure.
Thinking positive thoughts for your beer Chris. Keep us informed.

Yea....we'll see what happens. If there is any PBW dust in there it is a very small trace. The dust that was left in the bowl was hardly noticeable. And I really didn't see any white dust on any of the hop pellets when I dropped them in. If there is any dust, it's now diluted in about 5.5 gallons of beer. Should be a negligible amount, at least I hope!!

Just finiished bottling. Got 55 bottles of Johhny. And so far so good on any side effects of the possible addition of PBW dust. It looked no different than any other batch when I opened it up to transfer to the bottling bucket. And the taster was good too. Very midly hoppy with a touch of chocolate. It seems very well balanced at this point. We'll see what happens after 3 weeks of carbing. But like I said, so far so good.
