Hello Borg!

My name is Bob; I’m a beeraholic and third generation brewer.

Is this what an “AA” meeting feels like?

Grandpa brewed most of his life including during Prohibition when he supplied his Family, small community, local Church and its Clergy. My Father was the youngest of ten kids and got the bottle cleaning duty along with much of the other fun stuff, Dad was eventually allowed to brew too.

My Wife bought a Mr. Beer kit for me several years ago as a present. You all know how this stuff goes!

I now have three LBKs. 48 quart PET bottles, the hydrometer, bottle wand and all the other basic brew creation tools, cleaning supplies, spare bottle caps/spigots etc. I don’t have spare space right now to expand further and it’s probably just as well.

Brews in various stages right now are Mr. Beer varieties including a 2013 Spring White IPA and 2013 Belgian Spiced Christmas Ale; both were bottled at the same time and are in the final stage of conditioning. The other is a Powerful Patriot Ale at day 21 in the LBK, bottling today.

I look forward to benefitting from the experience and advice of well seasoned brewers here; I see many familiar names and handles from Mr. Beer and other forums.

If you have any recipes that were handed down by your father or grandfather, that would be a very cool goal to have -- to brew a recipe handed down within the family.
For now, enjoy the hobby, enjoy the Borg, and feel free to ask questions.

Bluejaye . . . yeah, I have a 26 year old Daughter. She doesn't have the time to take up brewing between work demands and play interests. Her boy friend has a taste for great Beers and Bourbons, her . . . not so much.

I inherited a bunch of Miller Lite when my Wife returned from a vacation with her for example.

Nice to have a potential Son-in-Law who gifts me expensive bottles of Bourbon!

As an aside Borg, I’m not receiving automatic notification of message replies to this post in my personal email inbox. I have scoured the FAQs and user settings to no avail. Have I just overlooked a setting or is that not a feature this forum software offers?

Never mind! It appears that one must "subscribe", even to threads where you are the OP . . . is that correct?

My understanding is, yes, you have to subscribe to any thread you want an email reply to and make sure you have your email set up in your profile preferences.

Thanks CC . . . yup that would be very cool, unfortunately my GPA passed long before I was born and my Father didn't return to brewing after leaving home to serve two different enlistments during WWII. I enlisted at age 17; he passed 19 days after my six year Navy enlistment was served.

We never had much time to interact adult to adult so I could learn more than I currently know of the family beer history because when I came home on leave, we were too busy drinking beer and swapping sea stories.

I finally found it in . . . "User Control Panel", "Edit Posting Defaults", "Notify me upon replies by default:" must be set to "Yes" as it's default setting is "No".
