Is it light or is it dark?!?!?

Is it light or is it dark?!?!?

Post by Kealia »

Just heard from a local tap house that they are pouring a "white stout" tonight.

Apparently, it's Anomaly Milk Stout from Faction Brewing and it looks like a pale ale and tastes like a Milk Stout. It's a local brewery (about an hour away) so I may have to try this just for the 'wow' factor.
It is a milk stout, but there's a catch. Like all examples of the style, it's sweetened with unfermentable lactose sugar and bears many of the flavor hallmarks we come to expect from such a beer: a coffee-like roastiness, a licorice-like snap, and chocolatey aromatics.
But here's the thing: it looks like a pale ale. Faction calls it a white chocolate milk stout. They've accomplished this act of visual wizardry by omitting the dark barley that gives stouts their color and chocolatey, coffee-like, licoricey roastiness, and replacing it with ingredients that emulate the missing flavors. In this case, we're talking about TCHO cacao nibs, coffee from Roast Co., and star anise.
It's a little hard to comprehend. It's a true anomaly in this world of the unexpected.
A tasty, tasty anomaly.

Now available exclusively in nitrogenated kegs.
(must be poured with a nitrogen/CO2 gas mix through a nitro faucet)

So If I made my black IPA that you don't like, white, would you drink it?
Either way, color me curious.
I like chocolate milk better than plain milk! :)

I didn't say I'd drink it, I said I'd try it.

I guess that makes me bi-curious?

Hmmm, I think you need to discuss this with Jeff. Not that he's bi, just that he's more worldly and might know more than me.

I can't find much at all online about this beer but I am curious. I say go for it and spill the milk telling us what you think.

Don't know if I'm more worldly, but defiantly open minded. Besides, it doesn't count if you're just "experimenting" right? :o :p

Plus, now that my reputations ruined I can live quite freely.

This forum is the greatest stress reliever in the world. It's better than any therapy that any therapist could give.
I would think the only thing better would be Kate Uptown coming over with a keg of Stone Enjoy By.

You are so right about that. All Hail Leigh the great healer and stress reliever.
And I'd be more than willing to share Kate and a keg with you. :)

I bet if you had a keg of Enjoy By, you'd share me with Kate.

But as a moderator, I think I might have to put the skids on this thread as it's getting kind of scary to read the words I write.
