My sister lives in Honolulu. Currently, they're being hit by an enormous tropical storm. They've taken all the precautions, and they're hunkered down, but I expect we'll have little contact with her. She charged her phone up big time, and will be texting her daughter, who recently moved to Pennsylvania, and her daughter is the point person on Facebook for updates.

But there's power in positive thinking, and there's power in The Borg's collective positive thinking. So send some prayers/good thoughts/positive vibes/whatever to all the people in Hawaii, and to my sister and brother-in-law, 'kay?

Without sounding contrite - they'll be fine Dave. We have lots of Ohana throughout the islands and Hilo (on the Big Island) got the worst of it from this first wave.

Julio is a category 3 but should track North of the entire chain just adding some rain. We're in pretty good communication with our family/friends on the Big Island and Oahu and I doubt Honolulu will get more than some rain and stronger winds than normal.

That being said, we'll keep them in good thoughts, too.

Thanks, Ron. I actually saw a Facebook update from her after I posted this, and she said the Big Island reduced it to a big bag o' wind and lots of rain.

I have a friend in Kailua who's back on line. Does your sister have power yet?

I saw another update from her last night saying her husband actually opened the windows before going to a meeting with the Department of Emergency Management (I assume at the University, where he's Dean of the Geology thing there, and probably knows a bunch of meteorologists, too). So she knew it was over before it was officially over. That was eight hours ago, so I think we're good.

So are we claiming the the power of the Borg diverted a category 3 hurricane?

Glad things went as well as they could. Hope that second storm doesn't stir up much crap for those folks.
