Wow, what a shock for me. The guy I loved on Mork and Mindy (I am old!) and The World According to Garp and many others.........what was so bad for him, what were his demons that he would end it all instead of seeking help?
Sad news for those of us who liked and enjoyed his wit and humor.

I know he used to do alot of coke and the people I know fight that crap on a regular basis. I think that he was doing drugs with John Belushi the night he died

My sorrow for him ended the nano second it was revealed he did himself in.
Other than that, I enjoyed most of his work.

So sad for someone who had so much. They are saying that he was fighting severe depression.

I just heard about it a little while ago and I really feel sad, I liked Mork from Ork. (Come to think of it I liked Mindy a lot better at that teen time in my life
) A great comic and will be sadly missed.

There is never an answer. I've known a few suicides. The only thing I can think is that they get to a place where anything seems preferable to the way they feel. They just want out.

Depression seems to run in comedians. Peter Sellers suffered severe depression.

Being fortunate not to suffer with the disease I have no idea what depression is like. With that being said I can not wrap my brain around being in a place where self destruction seems to be the best option. Except for being in a situation where one is simply getting ahead of a no alternative diagnosis from the doctors.
But regardless of how or why he died he will be sadly missed by me. He brought great joy to me throughout the years.
RIP Robin.

Depression unfortunately is very common in very creative people, especially those who have become famous as a result of their talents. It can be a terrible disease and those in its clutches all too often feel that there is no way out other than death. We have very effective treatments but they do not work for everyone. I grieve for Robin and his family. Quite a loss to the world..

I had said earlier, "RIP Robin". What I should have said was, Nanu-nanu.

gotta agree it was Mindy!!! Unless a person has been that depressed, it is hard to understand. I remember that in a few interviews years ago. He had said that depression was one of his demons.

Depression is a very serious illness. Though I have never suffered it myself, I know people who have (including a friend who committed suicide), and they will tell you that it is a darkness unlike anything else. You can't just tell yourself to "cheer up". The brain simply doesn't work right, and sometimes medication just can't help. It's tragic, and my heart goes out to Robin Williams' family. Perhaps his death will spur on new R&D for mental illness.

I think it would be fitting if they were to bury him in an egg shaped casket.
