Sunday is the first day of Autumn, and I am glad to see summer go. I don't take the heat and humidity well, and spring and summer are very busy seasons in the termite and pest business, so I'm worn out by the time my vacation arrives in late August.

But Autumn brings cooler, more comfortable weather, calmer and shorter workdays, crisp air tinged with wood smoke, and perfect brewing conditions. Even though the days can still get into the 70s, they start off much cooler, and my basement becomes a great place for ale yeast to perform best. It's not too hot in the kitchen for all that boiling, either.

Now I'm in the swing of a weekly brewing schedule, with all three carboys working at once -- one fiver and two 2.5s. I'll be filling the pipeline with some tried-and-true recipes; I've planned ahead into early November. Then I can start experimenting with new recipes and new ingredients going into the new year.

The brewing season has started; it's actually in full swing for me, and I couldn't be happier.

We don't see the seasons change much here other than the note on the calendar. We have Fall sometime in early November but, there's always hope that this year will be cooler sooner. I do look forward to brewing in the cooler temperatures and chilling my beer faster too!

We're not quite done with hot temperatures here, so my summer of brewing Belgians will still have a pair of Saisons to brew next week. Then I'm looking forward to some Fall brews and other ales, before a winter of brewing lagers. There is always something to look forward to!

What are these seasons you speak of?

Out here we have two seasons:
1) Everything's on fire season
2) Rainy as hell season

Oh wait, this past year we didn't have Season #2, just #1a and #1b.

I could, before I packed stuff away, brew all year here since I use coolers but I am glad to be digging into September.

We got our first big batch of rain the last couple of days, about 6 or 7 inches, and Fall early Winter can be our wettest time.

As with my brothers in California we are all about getting out of this drought cycle.

We kind of get seasons in Central Texas but nothing compared with the Northeast.

I'll be missing a lot of our tried and true beers until we move or I just say screw the buyers and pull out the gear and fill a couple of LBKs.

In the mean time I keep watching for SN's Ruthless Rye to hit the shelves.

Yeah, there's a big difference in the seasons from Noo Yawk to Jaw-jah to Nawlins. We actually get a full complement of seasons; roughly three months each.

Yes here in the Northeast we do get four seasons and they are all different from each other. I could say I like fall best, but I hate to think about winter right around the corner after Fall and that makes me not like Fall so good. I guess muddy springtime is my favorite. Everything starts to grow and turns green and I know our few days of summer is just around the corner. I do like fall beers.... well I do like winter beers and spring beers and summer beers also........

Kealia mentioned fires, and I'll be glad when fire season is over, although that won't be for a couple of months in an average year. We live about 20 miles from where the King Fire started, which has been moving northeast -- good for us but not for some other folks or for the forest and its critters. 76,379 acres as of this morning, and apparently too much smoke tonight to get a new estimate. Only 10% containment, and no estimated containment date. I always admire and appreciate the dedication and heroism of firemen. As for the arsonist, our county seat is Placerville, which was known as Hangtown in gold rush days, and a lot of Facebook comments have suggested stringing up a rope.

Edit - we live west of where the fire started. But the pyrocumulus clouds have been quite impressive except for the lingering smoke everywhere.

I get all seasons here. A few more months and I'll be cross country skiing instead of cycling. (cycling on ice sucks).

autumn??? where? not here. the hell that is north florida is still upper 80s and sometimes 90s... stinky humidity and full of bugs. we don't get fall here. we get a couple weeks of 'winter' where it gets cold at night (by florida standards) then back to hot and humid. gods I miss the seasons of the north..except snow. hate snow. hate driving in it. hate walkin on it. hate shoveling it. snow is evil. but I love fall and early spring..

A big part of the reason I transplanted from sw Ohio is cold, and a severe hatred of it. Normal winter day here is 27 in the AM, and in the 50s by noon. Beats the hell out of the - numbers you get in Oh.

SW Ohio? I LOL in your general direction if you think that's cold. LOL. LOL. And snow. I LOL at the snow they get there. I've had 4' of snow in November. That was fun.

I like the snow and cold. I'm mostly Viking in my genetics however.

And while your living in - numbers I'll be loling in your direction while sitting here in what amounts to spring weather all winter.
