The Student Has Now Become The Master

Post by Chuck N »

Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

A great article. Recently back from Europe, I had to answer yesterday a question about "better beer in Europe". While I thoroughly enjoyed my beer there, I told my friend that America leads the world in beer creativity. I was also interested to see that the writers defined craft beer by stye, rather than amount produced. I think Germany is well situated for a craft beer boom, because of it's local production facilities. Even in the face of tradition, success will prevail. As a side note, while in England, I saw Sierra Nevada on the shelves.
Making beer and stew for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Never mind, there it is.

Classic examples in the BJCP style guide for European styles are often from European breweries, which sometimes have been brewing that style for hundreds of years, brewing little else. I would hope they would have the recipes and processes pinned down by now, in those cases. Here we get the models of the best from all of them. It will be good to see what they can match now if they branch out beyond brewing only specific examples.
