I'm specifically asking about unscented dishsoap. Not other things like PBW, etc. Nor Oxiclean, which I use for cleaning labels off bottles and soaking dirty bottles. This is for cleaning the LBKs on bottling day, and cleaning out the bottles after I pour them.

I was using unscented dishsoap from Costco, but they discontinued it. Their new soap is scented.

I've read that some use Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid, which is "Free & Clear". It says it "cuts through grease". Don't know that that's a good thing... Ivory seems to say "Classic Scent", don't know if that's the original or not.

What unscented dish soap do you use (again, dish soap only)?

I know you said dish soap, but fwiw I couldn't find an unscented dish soap in my area. I use a clear unscented hand soap from Dollar General, where the brand name should be says; Clear Liquid Hand Soap(DG brand). It has been working well, I use it to clean my fermenters, bottles, and bottling bucket. If you can't find anything else, like the saying goes; Any port in a storm.

I found Palmolive Oxy at the grocery store last year and gave it a try. It works well. It doesn't say 'unscented', but I can't detect any aroma.

Palmolive Pure+Clear. Mostly because that's the only thing I could find at the store.

I've been using Seventh Generation Natural Dish Liquid - Free & Clear for over a year now. It has had no effect on my equipment or in the final result of the beer. I use it in my LBK after I bottle. Rinse LBK out really good. Let dry and store it. I'll use a Star San treatment before using LBK again. No smell in LBK, no off flavors in the beer.

RickBeer, have you checked into Amway Dish Drops?

Rick can I ask you why the dish soap. I know what you specifically asked in your post, but now I'm trying to learn something too. I use Oxiclean-free on everything and what you are talking about too. Explain why, because I think I'm missing something by just using Oxi-clean for everything.

I buy Greenway Eco-friendly at the supermarket. It works well.

This was my initial thought, too. Why buy two separate products when one will do?

I second the Seventh Generation stuff. It works great on my brewing stuff as well as my dishes, and I don't have a dishwasher so I wash everything by hand.

I use Oxiclean Free for removing bottle labels and cleaning bottles I acquire or ones with stubborn dirt.

Otherwise, after I pour a beer I rinse the bottle a few times, then fill half with water and 1 drop of unscented dishsoap. I cover with my hand and shake, then pour it out while washing the outside neck with the soapy water. I then rise repeatedly. Convenient, and works great.

On bottling day I rinse out the LBK as soon as the slimline is full of beer, then fill it all the way with water including a few drops of dishsoap. After bottling I wash it. Only once have I needed to do an Oxiclean soak in 50 or so batches.

That is why I use dishsoap. For bottles nothing is more convenient than hitting the soap dispenser for a drop, a product we buy anyway to wash dishes . Unless you have Oxiclean in a solution in a dispenser, this is the most convenient process I can think of. IMHO, using Oxiclean for one bottle, that in my opinion doesn't need it, is unnecessary and can't be as convenient as hitting the dishsoap dispenser. For LBKs and brewing utensils and pots, I find Oxiclean unneeded most times. Again my choice, just trying to find new unscented dishsoap. This works for me. I realize others have different methods, whatever works for you.

I've never used any Amway products. Found this quickly Amway dish drops. I don't buy from MLM companies though.

yeah that's how I clean mine also. well, except I also use a bottle brush.

I too only use Oxiclean or PBW on tough stains. I find the liquid dish soap convenient, and much easier to rinse.

For an individual bottle, if you're going to attend to it immediately after the pour, I've found that triple-rinsing it with hot water, and then using a bottle brush on it and rinsing thoroughly again works a treat. When it comes time to bottle, I always wash and rinse my bottles with Oxy-Clean Free anyway, so they're really clean by the time the beer hits 'em.

I've also found that most commercial beer labels come off pretty okay with just a soak in really hot water. Sometimes it takes a little effort to peel them all the way off, and there's usually glue residue, but that comes off with a scrunchy sponge and some elbow grease (and more hot water).
