Please vote today!

Post by Beer-lord »

This is not a political post nor will I let it become one.
I just wanted to ask everyone to get out and vote. You may think your vote doesn't count but it does. Voting is a privilege, an honor and something that many, many have fought and died for. Yes, it sounds cliche but if we truly want the United States to be great, it will take all of us, one vote at a time.

So, when you vote, just post here with something like "I Voted" and at the end of the day we'll see that votes do count.

For what it's worth I VOTED at 6:10 am with all the old, old people who are already up at 4 in the morning. :)

I'll start it off..................I VOTED!

I voted, although on a national level it is largely a waste of time. No matter who controls what, nothing gets accomplished without one party running everything. Unfortunate that we as a society are so useless.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Does your vote really count? The two parties have a stranglehold on the system and offer us the choice between voting for evil and the lesser of the two evils. What kind of choice is that? If you vote for the lesser of the two evils guess what? You're still voting for evil. Trust me, in our political system it makes no difference whether you vote or not or who you vote for because Wall Street owns them before they're even sworn in.

I do think votes count but everyone can't have their way. Besides, this could be North Korea, China of Syria. I like this place much better!

I VOTED!

I heard a good and very true statement yesterday from the Mayor of Minneapolis:

It's not the people who decide. It's the people that vote that decide.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

I voted days ago because we have always on by mail voting available, and every time I go to the poll I want to punch out the person who is pushing the limits of their "free speech" a bit too close to my face - which they are technically not supposed to do, but they get away with it. By mail is stress free, and eliminates that annoying dude without me having to resort to pugilism and/or fisticuffs. I like it. Makes it so much easier to vote for all the judges too, as you can look them up on the fly.

Even if you believe national elections are more or less pointless, local elections do still matter IMHO.

And if you think national elections are pointless, then if any of the proposed constitutional amendment(s) that will make money not equal to free speech and/or corporations not equal to people in the eyes law ever comes to the ballot, then you need to get out of your "it's not worth voting funk" and go and vote for it. Because IMHO that is the first step to a true reform of national politics and is good for anyone who is a typical REAL PERSON.

This is one of my favorite posts ever due to its use of the words "pugilism" and "fisticuffs". :urock:

I voted, I always do. Yes, I agree that many politicians are not our best representatives. Yes, I agree that the two parties are largely corrupt. But it's my country and I won't give up. I do make a point of voting on minor party lines, (not all states have them) and I won't vote for anyone cross endorsed by all parties. Pick the lesser of two evils and vote! Even get involved in local politics if you can. It's our country too.
