Brewtoad trouble, anyone?

I've been using Brewtoad lately to formulate and save my last four or five recipes, and I like it a lot.

However, last night I tried to edit a draft of a recipe, and when I'd made my changes and clicked on "Save," all I got was the Never-ending Pinwheel of Death. Same thing happened this morning. No changes saved. Just the pinwheel.

Have any of you Brewtoad users experienced this recently?

No problem saving a "draft" recipe.

But what about an edited draft recipe? It's saved the draft just fine, but any changes I make to it result in the Pinwheel of Death.

I'll give it a try, J. Thanks for the advice.

Hmmm....that didn't work.

So then I went and deleted the recipe entirely and created a new one. Didn't work. Something is wrong with Brewtoad working on my computer, it would seem. I may need to uninstall it and start all over again. Bummer.

Making changes and saving the new published recipe is worked this morning. I hope your problem has been eliminated.

Well, Bud, what I did was delete the whole Got-blessit recipe and entered it all over again. So yeah, that worked. It might be my server, or my Mac, or maybe just the fact that technology is my enemy and actively finds ways to mess with me. But I got it taken care of, and I printed it out and put it in my recipe book, because when the Technological Apocalypse happens (and it will; oh yes, it WILL), I'll have my recipe book, and I'll still be able to make beer, and that means I'll be revered as a shaman and a demigod, and I will be among the elite chosen to survive.

I'm glad you were able to fix the problem. I like the BREWTOAD application and with my new computer it works way better than before.

Yeah, I like Brewtoad, too. I was using QBrew, but hadn't updated it, and so very, very many ingredients were not available. Brewtoad is a little more flexible, I find. And the menu of ingredients is more inclusive.

I don't know what caused this particular problem, but besides being somewhat baffling, it wasn't a big deal.

I explored BrewToad but ended up using Brewers friend, http://www.brewersfriend.com. I just got used to the interface and it works for me. ALthough There have been one or two times when the site was having issues and I couldn't access my recipes! Having hard copy prints of your recipes is probably not a bad idea Dave. the Technological Apocalypse is eminent.

These recipe calculators are all internet based, correct? I think Brewtoad used to be Hopville which I used a couple times. Brewers friend was pretty neat as well, but being internet based I didn't want to have to rely on a connection to access my brewing recipes and saved sessions.

You guys ever check out Brewmate? It's a great brewing program, and it's free.

I'm still stuck in 2008 using qBrew with my ever updated database. It has it's limits like deriving percentages of grains in a recipe but there are plenty of those calculators online to fill in those gaps. I guess Ive become used to qBrew and comfortable using it too, it's definitely easy to learn and use and who has time to master another software package if they haven't outgrown qBrew.

I like qbrew I used it for a while. Brewmate fills those gaps you mentioned screwy. It has percentage indication. Scale a recipe up or down. BU/GU ratio. Yeast selection and seperate I gredients inventory. It also has a few nice built in tools like hydrometer, refractometer, dillution rates...etc. I like it because its still simple and offers a bit more function without being overwhelming. I recently got my hands on promash. Its older software but very robust brewing program.

@MadBrewer thank you, I may be a Brewmate convert now that I found out it supports BeerXml format recipes! I just exported a new qBrew recipe in BeerXml format and seamlessly loaded it into Brewmate and visa versa.
