I Got My Keg!

I got my ke-eg, I got my ke-eg, I got mmy ke-eg! (In a bad, flat singsong)
My brandy new first keg (2.5gal) finally arrived today, before my birthday next week, and only ten days after ordering!
All that doesn't matter now, because it's here, and it's beautiful.

But it's this one! And it was about half price on Black Friday! And it holds pressure! And it's very shiny!

That's ok John, I'll be damned if I can figure out how to post a Video on here that shows. What you going to put in that new Keg?

Thanks guys!
Berry, I'm not sure what to keg. I have nothing fermenting. My last batch, the accidental IPA, was dry hopping for ten days, so I bottled before the keg arrived. My next batch may be the Belgian Split, half pale, half dubbel. I could keg the pale half. I had hoped to split a batch and compare the bottled to kegged. Oh, what a problem to have!

Good for you, your going to like the idea of having it on tap. If you want to do side by side do a simple SMaSH 2.5 in the keg and 2.5 bottled. Also bottling from the keg is better too if you want for later consumption, no conditioning time or trub involved, I use picnic tap and the bottling wand fits into the tap. I dial down the regulator and bleed off the serving pressure and bottle at around 4 lbs or so.

As much as I enjoy the ease and simplicity of kegging, I've really noticed that my bottled beers taste better early on while the kegged beers seem to need 4-5 weeks before they start tasting great. I guess it's just a matter of settling. I know my new lines are clean and I noticed a difference right away when I changed them.
I don't miss the backache of bottling and like the fact that having 4 extra kegs around give me the opportunity to brew more and let some sit a bit if needed.

Great suggestion Steve!
Beer-Lord, that's interesting. My reading would seem to indicate the contrary, many people drink kegged beer much sooner than bottled. Do you carbonate naturally in the keg? Or are your kegs chilled and possibly conditioning more slowly? Have you noticed this effect more in certain styles? Thanks.
