Green Flash Brewing - Mosaic Session IPA

Picked one up from my buddy's house the other day and gave it a shot. I've really been liking the session IPA style. You get hop aroma and flavor without the 'weight' that some IPAs bring to the table.

This was a good one - not great, though. I've decided that I really like Mosaic for aroma and for us in combination with other hops for flavor. As a single-hopped beer though, it's not the best. I'm not saying I wouldn't drink it again, because it IS good. I'd just take a single-hopped Nelson Sauvin, Citra or Simcoe over it given the choice.

This beer is light, yet flavorful and has a wonderful nose. Plus, it photographs pretty well :p

I've not seen this one yet but did try their Citra Session which, like you said, was good but not excellent.
My Mosaic IPA is really good now but the dry hopping with Columbus is what saved it. I'm with you, Mosaic is useful but as a late addition and/or dry hop.

That's a nice pic too!

I've also found that I like Mosiac the best mixed with something else late.

I've not seen any Green Flash session IPAs around here.

Looks tasty. I have also been trying a lot of different sessions. And I think that just about all of them have been good, but not great. Maybe the lack of "weight", as you say, is what's doing it form me. They seem to be just a bit out of balance, but that's also what makes them interesting to me and fun to try different ones. It surely is a challenge to brew this style that's for sure.

I also have tried a few session IPAs that were decent, but not good enough to seek out, or even buy over a good pale. I'm interested in some of your opinions about Mosaic. I haven't brewed with it, but I did drink it in Blue Point Mosaic Session IPA. I didn't like it much, too hoppy for such a light beer. But I was intrigued by the Mosaic hops, mostly I remember grapefruit. Researching it just now I see that it also has Simcoe and Centennial. Which matches exactly what's already posted. Please disregard the defense's entire opening statement with the exception of 'thank you'.

I think part of what is causing me to not LOVE some of these is the weather, honestly. During the summer, I was loving the session IPAs as we were camping, water skiing, etc. They were flavorful and light and perfect for warm weather. As the weather has turned colder, I think I may need something heavier and since I don't like the roasty-ness (yes, that's a word - or at least I'm using it as one!) of most porters and stouts, maybe my taste buds are just wanting something with a bit more kick right now.

Another good point. In the past I didn't understand the winter brew thing. But I really do appreciate maltier beer more now, and lighter (relatively) beer more in summer.
