Ain't no reason to do otherwise.
Go with the flow. Brew what you know.

if I could afford to I would be brewing every other day and trying out new styles..even if I just gave them away. something about yeast happily burping away while they munch that makes life suck a little less for me. then theres the occasion of a yeast hurricane too which makes me feel something approximating 'joy' while watching it. I am strange. I find yeast incredibly amazing and fascinating.

Agreed. While I adore beer in its myriad forms and styles, I love the process of creating it even more. It is just about the only "hobby" I have right now, and it truly gives me something to which to look forward on challenging days at work. "X hours until the next brew..."

By golly! You might be on to something here to explain the extreme attraction of this hobb --- I mean, obsession; Not only are we making beer that we all enjoy and that we can share with friends and loved ones and feel their approval with the final product but we are also raising PETS!

Yes! Think about it...How many of us bought into the "Sea Monkey" things when we were kids? Or, at least wanted to get them? That's what this attraction to the yeast is. Our own desire to create our own pets. To feed them and make an environment in which they will be as happy as they possibly can and in return they will give us love back (or beer in our particular cases).

Good Lord! I have GOT to stop watching all of those "Frasier" re-runs.

I started out only brewing beers the way I like them. Seemed pretty obvious. But I love sharing with others, and soon discovered that most folks like their beer a lot "lighter" than I do. Eventually I managed to brew about half my batches for myself and the other half to share. It's not like I don't enjoy the "lighter" ones at all, just not quite as much as the darker, heavier ones. And there are some folks around here who enjoy my heavier beers, as well. It's all working out pretty good. I always have plenty of gifts to hand out, and still have plenty to drink myself. But that's what's working for me now. What works for each person is what works for that person. I don't suppose there is an absolute right or wrong. Brew what makes you happy, whatever that may be and for whatever reason. :fedora:

sea monkeys aka brine shrimp... lol... in grade school had to raise a bunch of them in a margarine tub and feed them brewers yeast. well I must have over fed mine because they got about a half inch big and all died from being fatties I guess. lol.

I like raising yeast better. sometimes for gits and shiggles I crumble up an eighth of a centrum vitamin into the wort at flame out.. and add sacrificial yeast.... then laugh like a crazy person when the yeast go ballistic while fermenting and make volcanoes. my yeast seem to like this much more than grape nuts.. and while I know wort has enough for them to get by, I pamper my yeast as much as possible.

No sea monkeys that I remember...

I love creating my own beer though, and drinking dark, malty beers that I love.

Its always rewarding! Even on the occasional bad brew, you get the experience of to know what to do different or better the next time.

Good on ya big guy and keep up the good work.

My first brew when I get unpacked will absolutely no questions asked be our RyePA, the household favorite. Might even do a double batch since we've gone so long without. :give:
