Time for a new RCE!

Those of you familiar with the drill, sign in and don't forget to include your Level.

For those who don't know what the RCE is, or who need a refresher, read on.

This is a fun tradition in which everyone who signs in on this thread gets paired with another person, and they communicate back and forth via PMs or emails, decide on a style of beer to brew, work on a recipe together, and then they each brew that recipe. It's a way to try a new style or ingredient or technique. Best of all, you get beer out of it, and you get to know a fellow Borg member a little better.

There aren't any other rules. There's no deadline for coming up with a recipe. You don't have to brew it at the same time as your partner. You don't have to ship your beer to each other unless you want to. You just have to sign up and work with the person you've been randomly assigned.

In order to help with the random selection process, I've broken experience levels down into four categories, as follows:

Level 1 - Have only done HME kits, such as Mr. Beer or Brew Demon.

Level 2 - Have used LME/DME, hop additions, specialty grains

Level 3 - Have done Partial Mash

Level 4 - Have done All Grain

Any level brewer is welcome to participate, and it would be helpful to know if any of the higher level brewers are willing to work with a less experienced brewer, or, conversely, if a less experienced brewer would like to take this opportunity to learn about a new technique from his/her partner.

I'll be closing sign-ins and assigning partners on Feb. 8.

Way to go, JJ!

I'm hoping one of the moderators wakes up and checks in soon so they can make this a sticky.

I'm in, level 4.

And it's now "stuck". Also, I unstickied the 2014 pairing thread.

Count me in for a level (entry level) 4. I'll do anything up to 4 but it's been a LONG time since I've done dme.

I can't resist even though my last collaboration brew is just ready to drink now.
Level 2,3 or 4.

Banjo, I said in the intro it don't matter none. The point is working together with your partner on a recipe. When you brew it and/or drink it is entirely up to you. And if it takes you and your partner eight weeks to nail your recipe down, that's okay, too.

Thanks for participating.

With my previous RCE being in bottles now (after needing to wait for cold enough weather in sunny California before I could start it), I'm ready for the next. I'm level 4 but would be happy working with any level. In fact, after collaborating with other Level 4 brewers in the past 3 RCEs, it would be a nice change of pace to see what we can do with simpler recipes, if that's how the pairing ends up.

I missed the last couple of these due to being grounded from brewing by health issues. I think I might be ready to jump in again, but will reserve that decision unil we see if there's any type of shortages. Seems like we may be top heavy with veterans and extra light on beginners. Oddly enough, I found it super gratifying to be able to help someone broaden their brewing horizons, especially after learning so much from most of you here. Not really anything I have to offer veterans, other than companionship, which is great, but outside of the collaboration, I suppose. If we start seeing an excess of newbies or an odd number of folks so we need one more to make a team, I'm here.
