Mr Beer Winter Seasonal Pre-order Special
Okay, I didn't think I'd ever buy HME again, but this may do it. Aside from the shipping cost of $7.95, this is amazing. 3.75 lbs of Hopped LME, T-58 yeast, and spice packet for $9.98. This should make a nice 2.5 gallons all by itself. This is a special offered on the Mr Beer Forum only, which I realize may discourage some folks, but I'm just passing this along for those who might be interested.
Re: Mr Beer Winter Seasonal Pre-order Special
Joe where did you see this offer on their site?

It's only on the forum. Josh B I think started the thread earlier today. It's under New Brewers and FAQ. Subject is Community Exclusive pre-sale - 60% off.
Re: Mr Beer Winter Seasonal Pre-order Special
Thanks Joe I found it. It probably wouldn't be too bad of a deal if you bought 2 for $28 with shipping, add a 1/4 lb carpils to each and be under $30 for a quick 5 gals. of seasonal beer. Bottle it up and forget it until next fall and it probably would be a good beer.

I ordered 4
Wouldn't you think they would have a 2014 Winter Seasonal out before 2015 Spring?

Note that this is the 2013 winter seasonal and will expire in August. So weigh that in your bulk buying decisions...
Did anyone brew this when in came out in '13? Is it worth getting?

I'm guessing they have an overstock of this and the reason for the mark down sale. That was about the time the forum went down hill in a hurry and their sales were probably less then anticipated.

2013? I'm glad you said that. How did you know? Never mind. I just went back and looked. It IS 2013. The words "pre-sale" tricked me. I feel like an idiot.swenocha wrote:Note that this is the 2013 winter seasonal and will expire in August. So weigh that in your bulk buying decisions...

Re: Mr Beer Winter Seasonal Pre-order Special
It had some of those once when I got a bunch of the seasonal at 50% off.. It's basically a dubbel, and it's good with or without the spices. It's better if you add some sugar or use 3787, or both - to dry it out a bit - that is probably even more the case with older extract - although it was fine with T-58 too. It doesn't taste like POR. You can use it as a base for a 5 gallon batch of an amber colored saison, with some Bella, and extra DME, some styrians or such to finish it... I did that with one my cans. Nothing I made with it turned out bad.
You could probably use it as a base for a 5 gallon batch of English Mild, just toss in a little bit of chocolate malt or roasted barley to give it something roasty/chocolatly beside the strong dark fruit vibe, a little bit of DME to get you into the 1.03-01.4 range and use an English yeast and some fuggles or styrians or goldings.
Just tossing out ideas.

Well I just did it. My first order to MB in close to two years and my last one was a seasonal also but I didn't care too much for that one. I ordered 3, 2 for me and one for my buddy that just started out brewing with MB and I helped him do a couple batches last spring. For $10 ea. it will be a nice quick filler.

Re: Mr Beer Winter Seasonal Pre-order Special
Im guessing the other old seasonals will start going up for sale as well. That is a very good deal and will probably pick up a few - two for a 5'er and one to experiment with, although I still have a shelf full of BDs from their 6'er half off sale to play with. Oh well, come March that may be the only type of brewing I can do for awhile.

Re: Mr Beer Winter Seasonal Pre-order Special
You guessed right. They just put the 2013 Summer Seasonal on sale for $9.99. I wish they did that before I ordered 2 winters the other day. I'm not about to pay another shipping charge now.DaYooper wrote:Im guessing the other old seasonals will start going up for sale as well.
