5 Easy Homebrew Recipes Guaranteed to Impress

I found this article on the Men's Journal website. The SMaSH recipe is very similar to the SMaSH that I did using my nugget hops. For someone new to brewing these might be a good way to move forward in the hobby without getting overwhelmed but still allow for experimentation.

Nice find. The IPA is even hoppy enough for me.

Awesome.....thanks for posting. Those recipe look pretty good.
EDIT...Looking at the SMaSH pale recipe. He uses Marris Otter extract, but says to use Munich for the AG recipe. Why wouldn't you just use Marris Otter for the AG also????

RE: the Saison recipe.
OG: 1.051
FG:
1.010
LOL, like that's gonna happen with Wyeast 3711 or Bella... NOT... 1.003 or < maybe LOL.

I would think so to, but I bet it's really good either way. I've done Munich SMaSH a handful of times and it's always delicious.

Yea...I'm not saying that it would be bad, just odd that they use two different grains.

I think Mashani is saying that there is no way that the FG will end at 1.010 using that yeast. It will go all the way down to .003 or lower.

That's what I thought but it just wasn't making sense to me.

I think I will give that IPA a go. looks good, but will probably use 05 yeast, about the same as WL001.

I've kept that recipe for a future brew myself. It's bigger than I've been making as I'm both watching the waistline and enjoying sessional type beers but it shouts "hey Beer-lord" to me. It has a simple grain bill that I have been trying to use and allows the hops to shine.
I don't normally use that much hops at 60 so I might do half FWH and half at 60.
Got lots of 001 in the fridge but 05 is just as good. Got all the hops in the freezer too. This is a 'gotta do' brew. Will be awhile before I get to this.

What you guys think of this recipe
http://www.mensjournal.com/expert-advic ... erican-ipa? The best I added up it will cost around $60 to brew this as is 5 gal. It sounds interesting but way more hops then I ever used in a IPA, I am really planning on trying this but just wondered if anybody had thoughts on it before I buy the supplies.

Is that the AG version that is $60? I copied it and its on my radar but I've been trying to brew smaller OG beers lately. I hope to do this beer sometime this year.

No I figured it ($) as an extract. I can't do that AG BIAB with my equipment, but could do it partial.

I plugged the AG version in to BeerSmith and the numbers add up for the most part but the IBUs are in the 125 range instead of the 100 range that the recipe states. There are a lot of hops in this beast 9 oz in the boil and 6 for dry hopping. So this should have some amazing aroma to it, along with the bit of the boil hops. The grain bill is fairly simple, almost a Pale Malt Single Malt with less the 10% of the specialty grains thrown in. This should really let the hops shine with out anything to muddle up the hop flavor. This one in on my To-Do list for sure.
