Wait, that's a WHAT?!?!?!

During the brewery tours yesterday I recalled that Faction makes a beer called Anomoly. Here it is (poorly focused):

Image

It's a Milk Stout. Yep, a milk stout. They use cocoa nibs, coffee star of anise and lactose for the flavors. I had to try it.

I have to say, I wouldn't drink it often, but I would drink a pint. It's smooth, creamy and chocolately/silky without the roasted flavor of your typical stout - even the milk stouts I've tried. Aside from the taste, what really throws you with the appearance was the heavy chocolate and coffee nose on this beer. It really is an anomoly, but I found it to be pretty tasty. I wonder if true stout fans would feel the same...

Whoa, your drinking a stout?
Stone did a stout like that awhile back. It was kind of odd to me.

I think so. I'm going to pour a Porter and dry the tear from my eye.

I have had a couple of pale stouts. One was very good, the other not so much. It was intriguing at any rate to try to figure out how they made them.
