Anyone got some links for some good reading regarding basics of brewing - Im sorta new to brewing (beer anyways) and want to soak up all the information i can get (already sponged up the MR beer site) and read BrEw Mag allot though some of that seems a bit too advanced for where im at. Just want to learn more terminology and methods etc.

This link has some beginner info and also advanced info but whether you read it now or not, it's good to bookmark for the future.

This is always a good place to start. I prefer the latest book edition, but great stuff in here.

Palmer - How to Brew

when you finish Palmer you could get; "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" Third Edition by Charlie Papazian. this one is an ebook got it on my kindle.

Well I was going to suggest going to the links thread but before I posted that bit of advise I went to look for it and it wasn't where I thought I saw it.

My entire google bar is nothing but beer stuff but I don't want to link all that in a thread like this one and have it get buried. It would take hours if not days to do the url thing to all of them.

What type of brewing are you into? Are looking to stay with the convenience of the no boil kits or venturing into the dark arts of all grain???? I think you will find such a wealth of information right here so ask away. A book to add to your library is Desgining Great Beers

Just looking for beginner articles online at this time - Reading the book posted above now - and My Brew your own magazines seem to help - Looking for things on the fundamentals of brewing and such - I dont know which way i will venture. At this point im just using MR beer kits and recipees, looking to upgrade as i have my 5th batch coming out soon and more going in. (will have 4 LBK's by the end of the week) and rotating 4 batches, would rather go to a 5 gallon system and keep my mr beer just for tinkering with.

I dont know the differance between a BIAB all grain etc. yet - maybe an article that explains these thigngs?

BIAB is all grain brewed in a bag. All grain is where you steep your extract out of grain rather than buying it already extracted. In my opinion if you want to learn the basics, get yourself a 5 gallon setup, buy 5 gallon recipe kits with steeping grains, keep reading BYO as it has a lot of really good beginner stuff, and above all ask questions here.

I am a huge home brewer association advocate btw.

My favorite straight up brewing info book is How to Brew as said by others. I also read The Joy of Homebrewing which has a lot of really good info.

For getting info about the styles I really like Brewing Classic Styles. It provides a baseline recipe for almost every style in a extract with steeping format, there are a few that require a partial mash but they also provide info for making the all grain version.

For more in depth nitty gritty details the series with For The Love of Hops: The Practical Guide to Aroma, Bitterness and the Culture of Hops, Yeast: The Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation, and Water: A Comprehensive Guide for Brewers are really good books. I haven't been able to spend as much time with them as I would have liked but they are really good books.

And for everything you would want to know about IPAs there is IPA: Brewing Techniques, Recipes and the Evolution of India Pale Ale.

Beersmith is a brewing software but on the home page Brad Smith has a ton of good reading material and there is an index so you can pick articles of interest to you.

He discusses everything from extract brewing, steeping different types of grains, hopping methods, counter top partial mashing and also posts some recipes.

WOW - Thanks guys / gals This should keep me busy for a while by BYO mags are fun to read but sometimes i read articles that i have no idea what they are even talking about - SO thats why I asked the question - looks like these links will help alot - We dont have a book store in our town and the library sucks (small population about 1400) so internet is best thing we have. - Ill read the articles first and than maybe order some books on Amazon.

Just go to the BIAB and glossary section of this forum see what you see then ask us a ton of questions, that's what we are here for. We love cultivating new brewers.
