Time to get my boil on!

Brewing up my Summer Wheat/Oberon clone. This is the first time using my new $10 burner and it is so much better then my old one. The other really struggled to get the boil going, but this one got to boil amazingly quick by comparison. Also this will be my first use of the Big Demon fermenter. I made some additional modifications to the legs and yeast dump and added some handles to make it easier to carry.

This ended up being a very enjoyable brew day. The weather was perfect and everything went smoothly with no problems. During the mash and boil times I worked on the mods for the Big Demon including leak testing, a shortening the legs from 24" to 16", and adding the handles to carry it with and I'm glad I did because they really made the task of carrying the fermenter with 5 gallons of wort to the basement much easier.

Also I used Starsan to sanitize everything and used the yeast dump to drain it from the fermenter and it worked great. I'm anxious to see how well this thing works and I will be sure to keep you all posted.

That's cool Leigh. Great to see you managed to slip in a brew day and everything went well.
Poor sad LBK on that lower shelf.

That's awesome Leigh! Really dig the setup and mods! Don't care what someone owns or has, whenever I see someone else's ingenuity I want one too!! Lol

I like the modifications. Definitely seeing how that would make working with the Big Demon easier. Congrats on the new, more efficient burner, too. I've never been tempted to brew outdoors, for reasons of my own (mostly because it's tough enough for me to carry barbecue into the house, let alone 5 gallons of just-boiled wort). But the important thing is, you had a brew day, and it looks like it was successful on many fronts.

And brewing an Oberon clone ain't a bad thing, either.

I was noticing the thermometer on the big BrewDemon fermenter, apparently it works okay even when put on vertically? Hmm, i had put mine on my LBC horizontally just above the legs and spigot so it would always be below the wort or liquid level and easily viewable.

Nice. Pictures are good but video is better! There's nothing like seeing yeast churning away.

I know a few things I won't mention and they don't involve hops. :hammer:
Back to real life......I can't tell you how mesmerizing it is AND relaxing for me to watch my yeast starter go round and round. I'm made fun of often and my wife tells me that it talks to me.

Yesterday I took a dump, ahhh I mean took yeast from the yeast dump of the Big Demon. After sanitizing I was able to easily open the valve and pull the yeast into 3 jars. It was very easy and quick. I took a video of it that I still need to edit but hopefully I will have it posted soon.
