What are the odds...

Post by JimH »

Well, it appears that I have managed to buy 2 six packs of beer, in to different cities 4 hours apart, from 2 different breweries, in 2 different states, that are infected or otherwise ruined.

I bought a 6 pack of Nimbus Brewing in Pinetop, AZ last month at my cousins wedding, and I bought a 6 pack of Breckenridge Lucky U IPA here in Silver on the 4th. Both are over carbonated, with the Nimbus gushing out of the bottle. The Breckenridge doesn't gush, but it does foam up, and fizzes to fill up the mouth or in the glass. They are slightly hazy, and have a bitter aftertaste.

What are the odds of that?

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Gloom, despair, and agony on me!

It's an ancient curse. To cure it you must send beer to all members of the Borg. Or at least those who post here. Not infected beer either! :)

Bummer.

I've only got infected (not on purpose) commercial beer once. It was a sixer of Goose Island IPA. The whole thing was infected. Another six pack I got to replace it was also infected. Made in the same batch. The whole batch apparently got infected. This was about when they started mucking around with sours, so I suspect some cross contamination somewhere in the process. But the sour really did not taste good in that beer.

I am not crazy right? There is something wrong with the beer? I had this happen once with new Belgium, and they had a production code and a quality assurance division to report this. Neither of these have that, but I think I will send the breweries an email. What type of infection would this be, so I can sound like I know what I am talking about, lol.

If it's not sour, just a bit off, and gushering, then I would suspect a wild yeast or brett. Do either of those breweries make a Brett beer? If so then they are now my house.
