Reaching my goal

When I took the plunge into kegging, I got a freezer capable of holding three kegs, but I decided I only needed two taps. My goal was to have a reserve keg at the ready so when one ran empty, I could quickly switch to a waiting keg. This has proven more difficult than I thought.

I'll admit my beer consumption is pretty high; three or four an evening, and sometimes more on weekends. And the convenience of draft beer mere feet from my TV Watchin' Recliner doesn't help matters. So I have not realized my goal.

Yet.

I continue to brew and keg my fivers every three weeks, so I usually have two kegs filled. It's that third one that remains empty. Thing is, I've been lagering an Oktoberfest since April, and I'm going to be kegging it some time in September, and that may round out the rotation. I'll be interested in seeing if it does, and if I can continue having two taps working and one reserve.

That's a lot of consumption (and calories).

I've found myself really watching how much I drink due to my age and how hard it is to not gain weight. I only drink maybe once during the week but splurge on the weekends. To do that, I walk 2-3 miles 5 mornings a week (man, it's still hot at 6 am) and go to the gym 3 days a week and do exercise at home 2 days a week. And, I eat extremely healthy. I must have a slow metabolism because I'm still 173-175 and 5'7". I'm about 12 lbs overweight according to most of what I read. Not bad but I'm sure the beer doesn't help.

More to Dave's point, I was brewing every 2-3 weeks and slowed down because I can't drink all the beer I make. With a brother who brews too, that's more beer I get to share. So, I guess I have to figure out a balance. I am getting our friends back in town for good in the winter and they do drink alot of my beer so my brewing will pick up.
And Dave, I really enjoy by tri-tap tower and having 3 different beers on tap all the time.

I used to drink one or two a night, but I am more like one or two a week (unless I'm going to a beer tasting with friends or something). I've tried to not drink during the week, and that's working pretty well for me, though it has caused a great glut in my pipeline. I have only brewed a handful of times this year as a result, which I miss, but I have very little need to add more beer to the pipeline at this point. I think I am planning to brew sometime this weekend though, even though I really don't need to.

I tend to drink 2 pints a day like a brit. But it's mostly low abv stuff. I drink less then that if it's higher in abv. But I *need* the calories, or I lose weight due to my level of physical activity. I can't eat enough calories of solid food without feeling :-(. It's why I homebrew lots of "Belgian session beer" in the summer.

I won't deny that I could stand to lose some weight.

But my job is pretty physical, involving a lot of walking, and more crawling around than I'd like. And I've been working 11 and 12 hour days for the past couple of months, and don't eat much during the day. So when I get home, I really look forward to having my homebrew round out the rough edges of the day.

I also like brewing every Sunday. It's kind of therapeutic for me. I'm doing something I enjoy, and I'm doing it solely for me. It's one thing to be as busy as I gotta be; it's quite another to be as busy as I wanna be.

In spite of my brewing schedule, my pipeline is pretty skimpy right now, because I spent three consecutive brew days brewing beer for the wedding. I have a lot of beer in my basement that I can't even touch right now.
