Sailing and Beer Karma

A while back, a member of my brewing club emailed me about sailing. His cousin was coming out from California, and wanted to charter a boat on Long Island. This is not a big charter area, but I pointed him toward some likely harbors. I also told him that they were welcome to sail with me. We went out yesterday, with a couple of my friends, on my boat. In spite of a prior forecast of rain and strong wind, the day started partly cloudy with a gentle breeze. We had a good reach in a rising southeast. Back at the dock, Eric broke out a bomber of homebrew, a very good APA with NZ hops. We all had a great sail, with good company. When they left, I received a "thank you" bottle: Pliny the Elder. I've wanted this but never had it. Some of you may remember that I tried to trade for it, but the Cali guy wanted too much. Now I had a great sailing day, and a fine beer to savor the memory.

Good for you. A bottle of Pliny is a perfect "thank you". I'm sure you'll enjoy it!!

Then he sent me a gift certificate to MoreBeer. It's really too much. My wife pointed out that I saved him the cost of a charter, which would have been expensive. I just feel that sailing is it's own reward.
I did the only gracious thing and spent the gift card though.
