I rebooted my plans

Post by FedoraDave »

I took a bit of a hiatus from brewing in August. No more 2.5 gallon batches, and I've got one fiver going that I'll keg next week. I usually kick off the weekly brewing season on Labor Day, but this year wedding plans force me to do it a little earlier. I'll be kegging the Rye-Guy IPA next week, while I'm on vacation, and then brewing another fiver before the weekend.

Originally, I'd planned to brew a batch of 2Daves Irish Red Ale, which is a great RCE beer. But today, I had a brainblast and I decided to brew a batch of Amber's Amber Ale. Interestingly, I formulated this recipe as an ale. And it turned out very good. But then I had the opportunity to make lagers, and I thought it would make a good lager. And it did, as it won me a third-place ribbon in my first competition.

Thing is, I've never brewed it as an ale since then. But I will this year. And it works out well, since I'd like the two taps on the keezer to have a mix of a malty brew and a hoppy brew. The Amber's Amber Ale will sit next to the Rye-Guy IPA (and I'm kegging the Ottotoberfest next week, too, so there's another malty one; I'll have to really plan my fivers so I can keep the rotation going).

I have to think about what yeast to use.... Maybe a German Ale yeast.

Wish I was able to dedicate this much time to brewing. I envy your ability to brew as often as you do!

It's my therapy, Dan. After a tough work schedule, which includes working alternating six-day weeks, Sunday is my day, and I really look forward to brewing. It works out well, since I start fairly early in the morning, and my wife is out doing the grocery shopping. She usually returns right around flame-out, and I'm about to shlep the kettle down to the basement to chill it and rack it.
