Senseless!

It just amazes me every day of how low mankind is sinking. Maybe it was always this low and the digital age just magnifies it since everyone can see everything at a moments click.

I live several hours from where the TV reporters were shot and killed live on air this morning. The murderer recorded it with his phone and uploaded it to social media also. Haven't seen that happen before and hope it isn't the new norm.

Unfortunately people will click on it and it will trend and these disgusting people will get the publicity they crave. The media needs to institute a policy of no broadcasting this stuff except for the tragic people that were affected and for their condolences.

I hope these peoples family can somehow find peace in this terrible situation as it appears they were loved by many and had a positive affect on those around them during their time here.

These weak and hateful chicken shytes who are too chicken to face their crimes and take their own lives. The only good thing about them killing themselves is that they can't get anymore publicity.
And when did we get so weak that calling someone a name is enough for them to take an innocent life? No wonder people think we are living in end times.

Sorry to be a bummer but all we can do is try to correct the wrongs and pray for the rights!

That's one of the problems; Even if they kill themselves the media turns them into rock stars. They get their name and picture splashed all over the news papers/networks for days and days. Then the next sicko has a new goal to set and the cycle starts all over again.

That's why 24x7 media sucks, cable news talk shows suck, etc. To fill that space and get sheeple to watch, they broadcast the worst possible things, or if nothing exists at the moment, turn whatever you they have into as much hype/controversy as is possible. Inflame your base. La la la. And it's wrecked local media, who feels the need to participate in that madness to "stay relevant". Where to me for local media to be relevant, they should be... local. And folks forget these days that freedom of speech doesn't mean that you have to use it. There is legitimate "judgement" that should come into play. It did come into play in pre-cable tv/pre 24x7 national media. This ass would have been a local story back then - a horrible one - but still local - and not a national celebrity. But now there is no "judgement". You just gotta spew it out there as fast and furious as you can to keep up with your competitors.

I think a lot of people are driven to extremes they would never have considered by the same extremes they are exposed to by that same 24x7 media. People are not meant to process that much "bad juju" all day every day.

I refuse to participate in that. I have no room in me for that kind of anger/hate/fear (and it's all about those things - very useful for social engineering). It's why I don't twitter and squelch 3/4ths of the folks I know on facebook. I don't need idiots sending me drivel 24x7.

When I left the house the channel was reporting that local police thought it may have been a suspect who was being perused after fleeing a crime; when I got home they were saying this guy had plotted and planned for months to do this.

He had apparently felt that he had been "slighted" by them. I worry about the country if instant media has spurred the wackos, if not outright encouraged them, to use lethal violence for a perceived slight.

No "copy cat" is a mentally healthy individual and media needs to take responsibility for fostering this kind of behavior.

It is sad but now that journalists' own safety has been threatened maybe some change will come.

It's not a "slighted by the media" thing - he was a former co-worker and felt slighted. This is one of those got fired, gets revenge scenarios with the sick dose of social media thrown in. Apparently he was discharged from several media companies over the years, sounds like frequently due to potential threats of violence, yet we as a society are so lawsuit scared that potential violent workers don't get reported to authorities or potential future employers. Then we have the whole legal rights concerns over those with mental issues coupled with the gun lobby pushing for anyone to have a firearm. While I don't want to get into a gun rights discussion, we as a country need to re-examine why other countries have a much lower death by gun percentage than we do, and why we allow virtually anyone to buy a weapon that is capable of killing others so easily.

I meant slighted by those two specifically RB in this guys case.

I agree with you also, BB2 and I were talking about exactly your point regarding how "bad" employees aren't easily fired a/o given honest references to new employers.

I (guess) I see where admin and HR might walk on egg shells but it is not fair to the rest of a companies employees to leave them exposed to a disruptive, hostile, or potentially violent co-worker.

I.........I......I yi yi my head is swelling and my blood pressure is rising. :x

I need to RAH oops can't do that.

OH Rye Whiskey where are you?..............

@BrewBirds: When I had to field calls for references for people I used to supervise (in the insurance industry / software development), the HR folks told me that basically I could give their name, rank, and dates of employment. I was not allowed to say anything negative (in fear of employee suing us) or positive (in fear of employer suing us if what I said didn't seem to ring true). It was total BS, but that was the line I had to walk.
