Just wanted to say that today hasn't gone unnoticed.....I'll NEVER forget 14 years ago and what it did to me and to our country.

May those that died that day and the years after, protecting our great country, rest in peace.

Well said Chuck. I remember all to clearly, and will also never forget. Some of the stories I saw today almost brough tears to my eyes.

By far a day that I could never forget! We were in a state of disbelief and worry, Donna's son was at his office in Jersey looking at the towers talking to his mother and saw when the second plane hit, then come to find out our Daughter-in-Law was in the air while all the scramble was happening only to find out she was on the plane next in line to the one that went down in PA. It wasn't till after noon that we found out she was safe in Atlanta.

I agree with all the above. Many brave people went toward the danger and did not run away. This country needs more folks just like them.

It's a sad day for me. My good friend Sgt Rodney Gillis was killed at the WTC. We were in the police academy together, and in the 79 precinct. On 9/11 he was in Emergency Services Unit Truck 8. I had left NYPD and worked patrol overnight on Long Island. He had finished his tour when the first plane hit, but jumped on the truck anyway. He was a very careful, professional cop, but sometimes the job demands that you rush into danger.

Sorry for your loss, John. These first responders went in immediately with no regard for their own safety to help others, these are the true heroes one and all!

Never forget and never will. My parents left DC the night before on their way to see my brother graduate from basic training. It was the day that I decided to sign up and serve my country. Bless those who tragically lost their lives and bless those hero's that did everything they could to help that day.

Late to the thread, but I want to add my thoughts, prayers and thanks to everybody who was affected - directly or indirectly.

And a special thank you to all who served, are family of those who serve, or know somebody who served.

The older I get the more I realize just how lucky I am/was to never have to go to battle, be drafted etc.

I watched a documentary on The Day. The guys in Flight 93 that crashed by Pottsville, PA were in contact with loved ones as the plane was heading east. Presumably to the White House. The one told his wife that they were going to wait until the plane was over a rural area before they tried to take back the plane. So they basically knew they weren't going to nake it and wanted to make sure as few people on the ground would be hurt as possible. I think the U.S. should make an exception for these incredible heroes and give them all posthumous Medal Of Honors.

Did you see the story about the fighter pilots who were scrambled to intercept Flight 93 before it went down? We were caught with our pants down so far that they could not arm the planes before takeoff (I find it hard to believe that we ever had an airbase without planes armed and ready to scramble at any minute... but apparently this was the case). They were going to ram the plane if they had to.
