MrBandGuy and I have been exchanging PMs for a couple days, now, and I'm really excited about our progress! We haven't completely nailed everything down, but I think this is going to be another keeper for the Fedora Brauhaus pipeline. Basically, we're taking one of his stalwart recipes and tweaking it with some new (to us) hops, and a little bit of rye.

No idea what it will be stylistically, if anything, but mutt beers can be mighty good, too! And as long as it tastes good, I'll be brewing it and drinking it for a long time to come!

FIT and I have exchanged a few PM's and emails. We talked about doing something with rye, then the conversation went to using honey, then it went to a cream ale. So maybe it will be a combination of all of the above somehow. Then we talked about deer hunting, coyotes and other various wildlife. Should be a good time!!!

My foodie brain kicked in when I saw this. HMMM Honey and rye... yes that could work especially with an Asian twist...HMMM maybe a little ginger...okay but....in food I'd have added some soy sauce, can't do that.... a little salt and wheat and you have a Gose.

The Rye deems it as category 21B, Specialty IPA: Rye IPA, if we go the IPA route. Or 31A, Alternative Grain Beer if we keep it as a pale ale level, if that's where we wind up.

I'm getting a lot out of it already. I think we're both going to be pushing our individual envelopes on this one, and something tells me we might actually manage to get a couple of additions to our recipe books before this is over. No reason the Red can't be a base recipe for the Au/NZ hops brew AND a more American Rye. In fact, it just occurred to me that I would call the latter Red-Eye Rye. So now I'm going to have to brew it, because I can't let a good name like that go to waste.

jpsherman and the Brewbirds are kicking ideas around and we working around something experimental that our schedules and brewing limitations can accommodate.

Looking forward to this exchange as we really enjoyed pairing with him last time.

Sounds very good! I am glad the RCE is going along great for all involved. I always enjoyed these when you put them on, but have sat out the last two for various reasons. I hope I can go at it in the spring!
